Universalism in Church History is a Fascinating Story

This video is a critique of universalism from a historical perspective. It advances three theses universalism in the early church:

  1. Universalism always had a rocky relationship with orthodoxy. From its emergence among 2nd century Alexandrian Gnostics, through multiple waves of controversy about Origen’s universalism, it never got a firm footing in the church.
  2. Universalism has tended to be more speculative/philosophical than textual/biblical in character and motivations.
  3. Universalism involved not just a different view of the final destination of reality, but a different framework for the entirety of reality—including creation and (sometimes) even the doctrine of God.
